sky paintings

I moved into my studio at the new Yorkshire Artspace building in January 2002. I spent a long time painting the walls and making the studio ready to move my press in. Unfortunately the Leadmill studio was so cold and damp that a cog had rusted onto the bottom roller. It took some figuring out (finally solved by Paul Thomas) and a fair amount of time before I could shift the press the few hundred yards to the new place.
I was stuck with a clean studio with no press I wondered what I could do. As I looked out of the large windows of the YAS building I found the answer.

I have always been a bit of a cloud bore, just fascinated by their colours and tones. I wanted to paint something loose and almost abstract, clouds were the ideal subject. I had done oil paintings of clouds before, but had always included a bit of landscape in the picture. With this series I decided to paint just sky.
